Japanese

Continuing from my last report, the University of Sydney library has benefited further from a generous donation from a member of the Friends of the Library to complete the acquisition of the reprint of the Japanese journal Shinseinen (新 青年). This journal was published between 1920 and 1950 in Japan and was the first journal in Japan to introduce Western fiction and stories, especially detective stories to Japan.

The library has also purchased the complete set of limited copies of a Japanese art journal called Kōgei (工 藝). It was published from 1931 to 1951 by the Nihon Mingei Kyōkai (日 本民藝協会). There are 120 volumes altogether. Each volume was made with a different kind of fabric and design on the cover. This expensive purchase was made possible from the bequest of Dr. M. J. Morrissey in honour of Arthur Lindsay Saddler, Professor of Oriental Studies, 1922-1947 in 2006.

Chinese

639 titles of Apabi Chinese eBooks were purchased recently. They are mainly in the area of modern Chinese literature, political science, social science and reference materials. All bibliographic records have been added to the library catalogue.

Korean

We have established a cataloguing arrangement with Monash University Library to help us to catalogue our Korean language materials. We have benefited greatly from the expertise of the Korean Studies librarian Jung-Sim Kim in Monash University Library.
